About Us
The Dontas family, Michael, Jimmy, George and Teddy have been the proud owners of the Roxbury Diner since 2003. The Roxbury Diner is a great supporter of the township, RHS, Little League, Gaels and much more.
The family have all worked in the restaurant industry for ever. Dad, Michael was a cook, George and Jimmy started in the diner as busboys around the age of 13 or 14.
George worked his way up as busboy, waiter, bartender, cook, baker, and then manager. George is known for his easy smile and fantastic cheesecakes.
Teddy worked as a busboy, waiter, cook, and then went on to study computers. Teddy is the youngest of the Dontas brothers, he is very laid back and easy going with a great sense of humor and dry wit.
Jimmy was a busboy, waiter, cook, chef, manager and then received a bachelors degree from Farleigh Dickinson university in hotel and restaurant management. Jimmy is the more serious of the three and the planer of the family.
Between all of the brothers, they have worked in fast food, diners, banquet-catering halls, hotels and corporate and private fine restaurants and their diversified background and experience is reflected in their services. All of the Dontas family worked independently in restaurants from New Jersey to Florida to New York, until one day their wise old father convinced them that success will come from owning their own place and not working for others. Thank God they listened and pooled their resources, finances, and knowledge to buy their first restaurant in 1987, which they ran for 16 years.
They outgrew that location and searched for a bigger place to support their growing families. The Dontas family purchased the Victoria Diner in 2003 and changed the name to reflect the community to The Roxbury Diner... and here they are.
The Dontas' love the area, the people are great, not a day goes by without someone complementing something about the diner that makes all their hard work worthwhile. It inspires us to keep our standards high, our service flawless, our food and ideas always fresh. We owe it to a strong family bond and support, a great staff and the wonderful customers that frequent our restaurant. I wish I knew everyone by their first name so I could thank each and everyone individually for their loyalty and good wishes. Our pledge to everyone that comes here is that you can always count on us to care of you and always give you our best effort.
For breakfast, lunch, dinner, catering, late night munchies, and community support we are here for you because your support for us has surpassed our expectations. We plan to be here for a long time and look forward to continuing being a big part of the Roxbury community and to being your favorite place to eat.
